Junior Sports Leaders

The Junior Leaders Award is a nationally recognised available for those pupils in Year 10 in which students have the opportunity to learn how to become young sports leaders. The course is studied in year 10 core PE lesson time and is led by Miss Forrest. The course is mainly practical and is concerned with developing leadership skills which can be used in both a sporting environment and in later life.

Pupils work towards organising, planning, preparing and hosting a number of key festivals and events held throughout the year. These include working with both local primary children and their peers in the school. Pupils are also encouraged to volunteer their time to assist in the running of school clubs. There is also a limited amount of written work, included a log book which must be kept up to date.

Modules include:

  1. Planning and preparation
  2. Communication skills
  3. Health and fitness
  4. Understanding fair play
  5. Understanding the role of the official
  6. Understanding the scope of local sport and recreation activities
  7. Demonstration of leadership skills in sport

Although there is no formal assessment at the end of the course, assessment will take place throughout the course and through log books.

We hope that as many Team Byrchall pupils take up this opportunity to develop their skills and to become sports coach and leaders of the future.
