Overview
This is an overview for the topic: Poems from Different Cultures. These poems are on Paper 2, Section A. You need to study the poems from either Cluster 1, Cluster 2 or in some cases, both Clusters to enable you to answer the questions that are on Section A.
What question do I answer?
There will be two questions on the exam. You need to answer ONLY one of these questions. Do not attempt to answer both! Answer the question that is relating to the Cluster of poems that you have been studying with your teacher. Ask if you are not sure!

There are many different techniques to use when you are revising the poems. A popular method of revising the poems is F A I L S. Don't be alarmed! This stands for:
F = Feelings
A = Attitudes
I = Ideas
L = Language
S = Structure
Students often use the FAILS method to revise the poems by creating a grid or table. Students can then compare the poems in terms of the feelings, attitudes, ideas, language and structure at a glance. This is a helpful revision aid. You need to remember that you will be comparing the poems, therefore it is important that when you go into the exam, you know which poems are similar and which are different. The FAILS table will help you to remember which poems to compare.

To ensure that you compare the poems effectively there are a number of connectives that you can use that will show the examiner that you have the ability to compare the poems. Comparative connectives include: On the other hand, However, In contrast, But, Whereas, similar to, different from, like.
It is important for you to choose your connectives carefully.
