Year 6 Information and Welcome Video
A Message from Miss. Tereszczenko, Head of Year 7
A Message from Lucy Cunliffe, former Head Girl (2019-2020)
Dear Year 6,
Hello, my name is Lucy, and I am a former Head Girl at Byrchall High School.
I thought I’d write this letter as I am sure that many of you feel a little nervous about coming to Byrchall. First and most importantly of all, I just wanted to say that it is totally normal to be nervous! I was only one of five students that came from my primary school, so I was feeling exactly the same as you are!
My advice would be to simply ‘be yourself’, and try to talk to as many people as possible on your first day! You will meet new people straight away who are in your form and you will stay in a form with the same people until you leave in Year 11.
I wasn’t in a form with any of the people from my primary school. At first this was scary but on my first day I spoke to lots of people in my form- one of them is now one of my best friends! My friendship group now is made up of all of the friends I met in Year 7. It’s normal to be a little apprehensive when you arrive and don’t know anyone, but that’s okay. I can guarantee that some other students in your year group will be in the exact same situation. If you just be as confident as you can, you will make lots of new friends in no time!
If you need any help at all, for example, if you are struggling to find your friends at break or lunch time, there are always going to be teachers and older students around, so feel free to ask them for anything and they will do their best to help you.
Also, join in with lots of clubs and extra-curricular activities. This way, you get to meet lots of like-minded students who enjoy the same things as you do! Being active in the school community is the best way to make friends with your new year group! It can be scary, but I can assure you that you will thoroughly enjoy your time at Byrchall. Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to be confident in yourself and try new things! Your Head of Year will be Miss Tereszczenko, and she is lovely. So if you are worried about anything or have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask her or your form tutors!
When I was in Year 7, my aim was to get involved with as much as possible. I made lots of new friends on the first day, and those are the friends I have left school being the closest to. I loved sports and theatre, what are your interests? There are loads of opportunities on offer to you! I did musicals, all the sports clubs and even things like ukulele club! Find your passions and build on them and embrace every moment you get.
Be the best you can be!
I am Mr Williams. I am in charge of organising all the primary visits and events that happen at Byrchall. I am also a PE Teacher and love getting involved in sport. My role is to ensure that your transition to high school is a smooth one and that you look forward to joining us here at Byrchall. Hello. My name is Mrs Fletcher. I am one of the Assistant Head teachers in school and in my role as Head of Lower school one of my responsibilities is making sure you have a smooth transition from primary school. One of my big jobs is visiting our primary schools before you start and finding out lots of information about you; what you like and are good at and maybe the things that you struggle with a little bit.
I work closely with the Year 7 team to make sure everything is in place for you to have a really positive start to high school.
Hello to you, our new Year 7. My name is Mrs Hudson. I am one of the Assistant Head teachers in school, my role is to look after pupil welfare and support. I am also in charge of making sure that everyone in school is safe in my role as Designated safeguarding lead. I work with our SENCO and pastoral support assistants to make sure that everyone in school gets the help and support they need in their learning but also in their emotional health and well-being. I also teach Food in school.
I look forward to meeting you all in the near future I hope!
I am Miss Tereszczenko. I am Head of Year 7 at Byrchall and my job is to make sure you settle down with us when you start at your new school.
I will see you most mornings in your form and in assemblies where we will celebrate the success of all our fabulous achievements in Year 7.
I am also a Drama teacher at Byrchall, so you will see me in lessons and around school.
I hope to see you soon at Byrchall.
Hello, my name is Mrs Sutton. As well as being a teacher at Byrchall, my main role is being the SENCO. My job is to make sure that any child who has an additional needs gets the support they need. At Byrchall we have about 100 students who have an additional need or require a bit of extra help. This might be a bit of help with handwriting, spelling, reading, math or in class support from a teaching assistant. Once at Byrchall, any child who thinks they need more help can speak to me or one of my team of teaching assistants. If you or your parent think you may need some extra help, please feel free to get in touch. Email is the easiest way to communicate with me at this time.
My email is: firstname.lastname@example.org
As SENCO it’s my job to make sure you can overcome any difficulties you have, that you do as well as you can at school and that you feel supported.
Hi my name is Mrs Stephenson, and I work in the main office at Byrchall High School.
I will be contacting your school at times throughout the year, to invite you to come and visit us for our many events we hold especially for primary school children. We have Twilight Tasters, Open Days, Open Evenings and Curriculum Evenings, all that will give you an insight to the exciting world at Byrchall. I may not see much of you during your visits, as I will be making sure you have a name badge, are in the correct group and arranging for you to travel to Byrchall.
