Emotional Health and Well-Being

Emotional Health and Well-Being Statement of Intent

Emotional Health and Well-Being helps everyone be the best version of themselves, now and in the future.

Our role as a school is to:

  • To develop an ethos and environment that supports learning and promotes the health and wellbeing of all.
  • To promote resilience in students.
  • To ensure students feel safe and supported.
  • To develop a sense of belonging, encouraging participation of all within the school community.
  • To build pupil relationships and trust – encouraging students to talk openly with adults about their problem.
  • To offer mental health support during periods of isolation.

In addition, every student has access to:

  • The Mental Health Ambassadors team.
  • School lead for mental health (Miss A Matthews) and Senior Mental Health Lead (Mrs A Hudson).
  • The MHST initiative in Wigan (via referral from the pastoral team in school).
  • School counsellor (Miss A Doherty) via referral.

Every member of staff at Byrchall High School is committed to securing good attendance for each and every pupil in our school community. The act of just being in school, being around friends, peers and staff who can help, support, and guide is a very simple way of taking care of mental health.
